What is a Blurb?

A book blurb is a brief summary that provides a snapshot of the story without giving it all away. The goal is to entice readers with glimpses of the plot, characters, and overall tone to spark interest in the book. Typically, it is between 100 to 250 words. It serves as a promotional text designed to capture the reader’s attention.

What is a Blurb Hook?

Ever heard that a book’s opening line is crucial? So is a blurb’s opening line. More and more readers are looking for instant gratification, which translates to less and less time for an author to hook a reader. Those first one or two sentences may be what gets the reader to read the rest of the blurb.

Why is it so hard for authors to write their own blurbs?

Well, it’s simple. An author has written 10, 20, 50, 100 thousand words or more. Condensing it into a short blurb of 100-250 words is challenging, to say the least. Often, authors find it restricting and cumbersome to work on this, and they may even prefer to start new books rather than work on the little blob of words for the back cover. Doubts about squeezing the entirety of a book’s sometimes complex nature into a few sentences turns it into a daunting process. And the reality of the situation is… that’s okay! In fact, it’s normal. Luckily, there are people out there who can do this for the author.

How much does it cost and what's included?

Blurb with Hook  $85 (or 80€)

Blurb without Hook  $70 (or 68€)

A book blurb is between 100 to 250 words and will be sent to the client. The client has one rewrite option. After this, any additional rewrite will be charged at $30 (25€) per rewrite.

For the blurb hook, DPT will submit ONE option to the client, and the client may choose to have one rewrite. If the client ends up liking both and wants to keep both, there’s an additional fee of $15 (12€). The same amount will be charged for any additional rewrite of the blurb hook.

We can say with confidence that most of our clients enjoy our first submission. At most, clients opt to alter a sentence or two.
